12 Timesaving Hacks for Busy Mums
Balancing work, family, chores and still having time for you.
We all want more time to enjoy the important things in life but as any busy Mum knows, it’s not always an easy fete. So we’ve listed below our top 12 time-saving hacks below so you can achieve a cleaner home in half the time.
- Fake it til you make it
Everyone has that friend with a seemingly immaculate house, but chances are they’re faking it. If you’re expecting guests give yourself 5 minutes to do a ‘fake clean’. Put the dishes away, fluff your cushions, straighten your coffee table, wipe the toilet seat and throw any kids toys into their trolley before wheeling it into the pantry or spare bedroom. Easy.
- Make a housekeeping box
You may even want to make a box for each room or floor – one for the kitchen and living room, one for bathrooms and another for bedrooms. Simply find the right tools and stock up, that way you never have to run downstairs to look for the polish if you notice your dressing table mirror needs a once over.
- Use non stick baking liners in your oven
Line the bottom of your oven with a reusable non-stick oven liner and wipe down weekly. That way you won’t have to clean your oven as often, and when you do it won’t be such a chore.
- Cut down Ironing
When you take your clothes out of the washing machine, hang them on some fabric hangers and hook onto your airer. It’ll help the creases to drop out, which is especially helpful when washing shirts.
- Clean as you go
Put your clothes away as soon as you have changed out of them, wipe down the hob after making dinner, wash the dishes straight away and make your bed in the morning. The more you clean as you go, the less you have to clean in one go.
Need to make a phone call? Go hands-free and use the time to clean whilst you chat. Want to watch the latest episode of Broadchurch? Fold the laundry in front on the TV.
- Clean plastic toys in dishwasher
Grab a plastic bucket and each time a toy has been tasted or dropped add it to the bucket. Then simply pop in the dish washer with the rest of your dirty pots and clean in one go.
Pick up multiple cleaning products when they’re on offer, then when you run out you won’t have to make a special trip to the shop. Timesaving and budget friendly – double whammy!
- Clean at bath time
Keep some spray and wipes in the bathroom and have a quick wipe around straight after bath time.
- Floor mats under highchair
Put floor mats under your baby’s high chair to catch any spills. Then you can just take them outside and shake off any mess.
- Store bedding set in pillow case
After washing the bedding, store all of the set in the pillow case so they’re all in one place when you next come to use them.
- Ask for help
Ask your Mum, Dad or if finances allow you could even enlist the help of a cleaner once a week or month. There’s no shame in asking for a little help every now and again – nobody’s perfect!
