The Ultimate Christmas Countdown
Getting ready for Christmas usually involves a multitude of tasks from planning; to shopping, to present wrapping, to cooking and finally to eating and drinking… a lot!
We’ve put together a week by week list of handy tips to get you ahead this December.
Let the countdown begin.
4 weeks to go: Make a list, check it twice
It’s easy to get dazzled by 3 for 2 offers and festive bundles but it could lead you to buy things you don’t need. So set yourself a budget and create a list that Santa would be proud of.
Break the list down into essential categories including presents, food and entertainment. Then head online to research the best deals for you.
3 weeks to go: Set a Christmas cleaning routine
The tree is up but the house still doesn’t sparkle? Don’t worry, all it takes is a little planning (and some bribery!).
Write a list of essential daily tasks and ask each member of the family to choose a job from it. Then whoever is first to complete their task gets to choose the Christmas film of the day.
2 weeks to go: Fail to prepare, prepare to fail
It’s easy to forget what time of the day it is and spend most of the afternoon on the sofa – face first in a family-sized tub of chocolates.
To make sure you don’t miss out this year make a date with your diary and jot down all the events you’re due to attend. Then give them a rating from 1-10 – any items marked 8-10 are a must attend (children’s nativity or visiting the in-laws on Christmas Eve); any marked 4-7 are ‘nice to attend’, and finally, 1-3… get rid and spend the day on the sofa!
1 week to go: De-clutter the home
The Christmas decorations have been up for weeks and the house feels a whole lot smaller – time to make some room for Christmas!
Go through the kid’s toys to make room for any new gifts this year. Box up any presents from last year which have been cast aside and get ready to take to the charity shop. And don’t forget to do this with the kitchen cupboards too to make room for all the yummy treats you’ll be buying!
