You have no items in your basket!
So a new season is now upon us – it’s getting darker earlier, leaves are starting to fall, and supermarkets and coffee shops are going pumpkin-crazy. This could only mean one thing: Autumn has officially arrived.
For many, Autumn starts the long-awaited countdown to Christmas, so it seems like a great time to do some cleaning before our halls are decked for the festive period. Before all the commotion of Christmas truly begins, it’s good to spend time cleaning those hard-to-reach and often forgotten places around the house, like under beds and behind the sofa.
Here’s our handy guide to getting your home looking sparkling this season:
Giving your home a good clean is a marathon, not a sprint – so we’d recommend putting on some feel-good music or a podcast to get you in the mood. Our current favourite motivator is Mr. Brightside by The Killers, which never fails to jump-start our cleaning spree – but you can choose whatever works for you.
Research shows that listening to music when cleaning increases output by almost 7%, so not only are you feeling good but you’re more productive, too!
Start with ceilings or high surfaces
Now you’re feeling motivated, the best piece of advice we’ve learnt is – start from the top! Starting with your ceilings or high shelves means that, if you don’t quite capture all the dust or debris, it won’t matter if some falls onto the furniture or floor below, as these should be the last to be cleaned. The Vileda Duactiva Broom will do the trick for removing particles and dust from hard-wood floors in one sweep, whilst our lightweight Vileda Easy Sweep Rechargeable Cordless Floor Sweeper is a fast way to collect dirt and crumbs from your carpeted and hard floors, when bringing out the vacuum cleaner feels like too much trouble.
Don’t forget the windows
We know how tricky getting streak-free windows can be, but there are so many solutions out there to make this troublesome task quick and easy. Our Vileda Windomatic Power window vacuum sucks all the dirty water after cleaning windows and leaves them looking sparkling – just ask home interior and lifestyle blogger Danielle, who put our Windomatic on her list of household items she couldn’t live without.
Make sure you’re using the right tools for the job
The number one cleaning no-no is using the wrong equipment on the wrong surfaces. Flooring such as ceramic tiles and sealed hard floors such as wood and laminate all need treating differently. Delicate floors such as wood and laminate need minimal water when mopping so would benefit either from the Vileda Steam Mop – where the steam level can easily be controlled – or from the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop where you can spray as much or as little moisture on the floors as needed. Both products are suitable for these delicate floors and for tiles and vinyl.
