Host the perfect Halloween party
Does the thought of hosting a Halloween party make you as white as a ghost? At Vileda we’ve got the tricks and treats to make your house BOOtifull and sparkling clean.
Here, we’ve pulled together some of our top tips for the party prep as well as the dreaded aftermath!
To make sure your house is the most haunted on the street, you’ve got to get some spooky decorations. Pumpkins, big or small, every haunted house needs one and they can be bought at most major supermarkets. Cut the top off your pumpkin and scoop out the insides (it’s the best time to be gory, right?). Then it’s time to choose the design you want to carve into the pumpkin.
This can get a bit messy but don’t stress – use Vileda’s Sunsplash All-purpose Cloth to wipe down any messy surfaces. Pumpkin carving is an activity that the whole family can get involved in, just make sure the little ones are supervised while you’re doing the cutting and carving.
Feeling more creative with decorations? Then get those window stickers up. From creepy tree scenes to spider webs, there’s tons to choose from. Don’t fret about the cleaning either – the Vileda Windomatic Power quickly vacuums away water after cleaning and will leave your windows sparkling and streak free.
Now it’s time to think of your own costume – for sure your kids have had theirs ready for some time now, but how about you? Will you be dressing up for Halloween? Of course you will, that’s half the fun! Be creative with your make up (we’re sure there’ll be some eye shadow and lipstick you or your partner never wears so you might as well use it up now), put your hair in a crazy style or don an extravagant wig and dig deep into your cupboard for your costume.
Food for All
Mummies, Skeletons, Vampires and Zombies they may be dead but they’re also dead hungry. Try the Sausage Mummy Fingers recipe and you’ll keep everyone eating your food!
1 pack of Frankfurters or chipolatas
Tube of 6 ready-to-roll croissants or a ready-rolled puff pastry
1 tbsp flour to sprinkle
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp ketchup
Decorations: black olives, soft cheese
Preheat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and brush 2 baking trays with a little oil. Mix the honey, ketchup and mustard together in a bowl, then brush over the sausages.
Unroll the pastry and cut into long thin strips. You will be needing approximately 1-2 strips per sausage.
Wind the little strips around the chipolatas, leaving a little gap at one end to make a slit for the eyes. Place on baking trays and bake for 20 mins. Cool a little, then, using the olives and soft cheese dot a pair of little googly eyes on each mummy.
Now that you’re done with the spooky setup and you’ve finished the snacks, all you need is to choose the right entertainment. Since it’s likely that you need to keep all ages happy without breaking the bank, why not try one of the below…
– Apple bobbing is a classic Halloween game that never gets old. To set this up, use a big plastic container and fill up ¾ of the tub with water. Place the apples in the water and they should float. Keep your mop handy to absorb all the mess (you don’t want anyone slipping). The aim of the game is to pick up an apple only using your mouth, it’s a lot harder than it sounds!
– If all the stress of hosting a party is starting to take a toll on you, our next game is designed to let you channel that in a fun festive way. Piñata’s are a fun easy way to keep everyone entertained. They come in all shapes in sizes and for Halloween too!
The day after
Now that the party’s over you can let out a sigh of relief. Everything went well, the kids had fun, the party was a success and you received lots of nice compliments for handling the event so well. So, what now?
The best way is to start at the beginning: aka the kitchen. You will need to keep that area clean because not only will you want to make a brew (and use a clean cup!), but soon your little ones will be asking for breakfast. So make sure you clean all of the dishes, wipe down the surfaces and mop the floors. The Vileda Turbo spin mop and bucket, with its pedal operated wringer will make it easy for you to whizz over the floors giving them a quick freshen up.
Now you’re ready to tackle the big project – party central – aka the front room. Tidy the room and put anything back that’s been misplaced. Once done, the Vileda VR302 Cleaning Robot will help clean your floors whilst you, finally, get to enjoy a cup of tea in your lovely, clean house. It’ll feel like the party was all a dream!
