How to be the host with the most this Christmas
It’s very close to Christmas and you’ve already done most of the big projects: the house has been cleaned and dusted, the tree and decorations are up and you’re probably finished with most of the Christmas shopping. If you’re the one hosting the Christmas dinner however, there’s still some way to go.
Being the host is a satisfying but demanding task that needs plenty of preparation. We’ve put together a list of all the last minute things that need to be done, in order to keep your house spotless, keep the children occupied and stay on schedule for the big event.
The Great British Bake Off
Gravy, mince pies, pudding and stuffing are some of the things that can be prepared long before the main event. To save yourself some last minute pressure make some of your key Christmas treats early and keep them in the freezer until Christmas eve.
Freshen up your soft furnishings
Freshen up your throws and the cushions from your sofas with a quick wash using your favourite detergent and fabric softener. For a larger wash load, the Vileda 2 in 1 Indoor Airer will provides ample drying space to hang your soft furnishings, with up to 18 meters of drying space. For those with just a few cushion covers to wash these can be easily dried using the airer’s detachable wing that can be hung on the radiator. Make sure to follow your soft furnishing’s washing instructions.
The nose knows
A clean house is a joy but a nice scent makes it more alluring. Bring the smell of Christmas into your home, and get crafty with your kids by making a holiday garland. Bake slices of oranges or apples and string them together with cinnamon sticks and cloves. Place a garland in every room to spread the holiday scent throughout your home.
Make room for food
Five days before Christmas you need to sort out your fridge and cupboard space. Take into account what your family will be eating for the next few days (you don’t want them nibbling on what you’ve meticulously prepared for Christmas dinner), get rid of everything that’s past its expiration date and make room for the food and drinks for the big day.
Get the trusty ironing board out
Tablecloths, placemats, dresses, shirts and ties – they can all use a good iron to ensure your family and table look smart in your festive Instagram pictures. The Vileda Park and Go ironing board has an ironing surface of 120 x 38 cm making it perfect for those larger items.
Keep the busiest areas spotless
When you start with the cooking, it’s necessary to know that both the kitchen as well as the bathroom – the two areas with the most traffic – will stay as clean, spotless and fresh as possible. The perfect solution is the Vileda Steam Mop. Taking just 15 seconds to heat up it can then clean for up to 28 minutes on one tank. The steam power and microfibre pad will kill up to 99.9* of bacteria and will help keep your sealed hard floors pristine.
Finish up & be creative
Once we get to the 25th of December, it’s all hands on deck. Now is as good a time as any to show your children how to set the table properly: forks on the left of your placemat, knives on the right and the spoon on top. Why not let them play around with napkin design as well? Type “napkin folding” on YouTube and let your little helpers work their magic while you finish up your delicious recipes.
