Is your BBQ ready to sizzle this summer?
Say ‘Hello’ to summer with a good BBQ. We Brits love nothing more than getting together with our most loved family, friends and neighbours for some food; drinks, outdoor games and a good old natter.
However, there’s nothing we love less than cleaning the BBQ at the end of the night; in fact it usually sits there for weeks afterwards steeped in grease and grime until we’re forced to clean it, or if it’s that bad you may even think about throwing it away.
But before you go ahead and get rid of your dirty BBQ, have a read of our top tips on how to get your BBQ grill sparkling clean and ready to sizzle. They might just save your BBQ (and some money!).
Tip 1: Strike whilst the BBQ’s hot
We all know it’s best to clean the BBQ straight after cooking but that doesn’t mean we always do!
If you’ve left the BBQ for a few days before cleaning then throw on some new coals or switch on the gas and wait for it to heat up. Pop on the lid for up to 30 minutes and allow the heat to loosen some of the burnt on food. After this time, remove your lid and allow the barbecue to cool. Then scrub away at the grime and grease using a tough scourer such as our Spiral Heavy Duty Scourer.
Tip 2: Put your leftover onions to good use
Cut an onion in half, stick in some prongs and, cut side down, wipe the onion across the hot grill. The acidity will help to cut through the grease, loosening any burnt on food and grime.
Once cool pop your BBQ grill into a bucket with some warm soapy water and scrub with a heavy duty scourer like our SuperScourer pad.
Tip 3: Kitchen cupboard essential
After loosening off any large bits of burnt food grab a few sheets of paper towel and scrunch up into a ball. Dampen with inexpensive vegetable oil from your cupboard and, holding with your barbecue tongs, rub the oily paper towel over the grill.
Not only will the oil help to clean the grill, but it will lubricate the grill preventing future sticking.
Then once your BBQ is clean there’s only one thing left to do… get grilling! To make your next BBQ a success, we’ve listed our favourite barbecue recipes from some of our favourite bloggers below.
