5 Quick Clean Tips for Unexpected Guests
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
It’s also the time of year when ‘guests’ have a habit of turning up at a moment’s notice! So what do you do when you only have ten minutes to give the house a bit of a spruce? Do you have a plan in place to give the areas that matter most a good clean, or do you spend 5 minutes stressing out about the state of the living room only leaving enough time to kick some toys under the sofa?
Not to worry if you’re the latter, as we’ve put together our Top 5 Quick Clean Tips for when you have last minute guests.
- Tackle the bathroom.
A dirty bathroom has got to be cleaning sin number 1! Quickly spray around the bath and sink and leave whilst you complete tips 2-5. Once the rest of the house is complete, head back to the bathroom and wipe away focusing on the mirror and taps (not forgetting a wipe around the toilet seat) before hanging up a fresh hand towel and topping up the loo roll.
- Clear the draining board.
Clearing the draining board and stacking any clutter in your cupboards will instantly make your kitchen look cleaner. You can even hide any dirty pots in the oven whilst your guests are there (just don’t forget about them once they’re gone!)
- Remove pet hair.
For all you pet owners out there this is a must. There’s nothing worse than visiting a friend in your Christmas best only to leave covered in hair! Simply take a squeegee or rubber glove and run it over your sofa to remove as much hair as possible, as quickly as possible.
Seeing as though the living room is where the guests are likely to congregate then giving your coffee table a good de-clutter has to be a priority. Quickly wipe a dry microfiber cloth over the table to remove any dust particles, before neatening up any mess. Stack books and magazines and pile up your coasters. Everything else, just throw it in a basket and hide in the cupboard.
- Mask smells.
If you can’t clean the house before your guest arrives then at least make it smell good for them. Have a fabric spray to hand or pre-make a bottle of your own by mixing essential oils, bicarbonate of soda and distilled water in a spray bottle. You can even add some cinnamon for a real Christmassy scent!
